Ayn Rand's most successful play, Night of January 16th opens at Theatre Jacksonville for the first time since 1938, the inaugural season in our historic playhouse. It's a gripping courtroom drama of greed, power, double-cross and mystery. Was the powerful tycoon murdered by his spiteful mistress? His jealous wife? Did he leap to his death in suicide? Or was there another who had the motive to kill? Attend the trial where each colorful witness adds another intriguing piece to the puzzle, leaving the verdict at each performance up to a jury chosen from the audience. At each show, the actors will finish the play based on the verdict handed down.

Rand wrote the play in 1933 under the title Penthouse Legend and after rejections from several New York theatrical producers it finally opened in 1934 at the Hollywood Playhouse in Los Angeles under the title Woman on Trial. The play subsequently ran in New York under its new title Night of January 16th and became a hit of the 1935-36 Broadway season.

The very talented cast of our production includes Tracy Olin, David Gile, Michael Bartlo, Russ Kirk, Rob Conger, Evan Gould, Maggie O'Connor, Richard Sheffler, Jerry Wisner, Jerald Wheat, Sommer Farhat, Mark Wright,Chris Morrissey, Joshua Taylor, Lorraine Wheat and Katie Wisner. The show is directed by Michelle Svenson Simkulet and stage managed by Bradley Akers.
